چکیده

Introduction An increase in demand of Total Knee Replacement (TKR) has necessarily required us to design a better TKR from durability and endurance aspects. Measurement of prosthetic kinematics will bring us significant information on the TKR design. The image-based technique may be highly feasible for in-vivo measurement as compared to other sophisticated techniques. In this study, the pattern matching theory was developed and computer model studies and in-vitro measurements were performed to assess the feasibility of using an X-ray fluoroscopy based technique for the measurement of 3-D kinematics of TKR.

Kinematics of Hip, Knee and Ankle During Cross- Slope Walking

Purpose: Little information is available on joint kinematic adaptations during walking on cross-slope surfaces (i.e. a surface incline perpendicular to the direction of locomotion). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of cross-slope surfaces on three-dimensional (3D) kinematics of hip, knee, and ankle joints during stance phase of walking.  Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study...

Knee Kinematic Improvement After Total Knee Replacement Using a Simplified Quantitative Gait Analysis Method

Objectives: The aim of this study was to extract suitable spatiotemporal and kinematic parameters to determine how Total Knee Replacement (TKR) alters patients’ knee kinematics during gait, using a rapid and simplified quantitative two-dimensional gait analysis procedure. Methods: Two-dimensional kinematic gait pattern of 10 participants were collected before and after the TKR surgery,...

Three-dimensional determination of femoral-tibial contact positions under in vivo conditions using fluoroscopy.

OBJECTIVE: A method has been developed to accurately measure three-dimensional (3-D) femoral-tibial contact positions of artificial knee implants in vivo from X-ray fluoroscopy images using interactive 3-D computer vision algorithms. DESIGN: A computerized graphical (CAD) model of an implant component is displayed as an overlay on the original X-ray image. An image matching algorithm matches th...

Automatic 2D-3D Image Matching Method for the Shoulder Joint Using Single or Dual Fluoroscopic Images

INTRODUCTION Fluoroscopic image-model registration, using either a single image or dual images, has been widely used to measure in-vivo human joint kinematics, such as the knee, hip, spine and shoulder. The critical step of this technique is the registration of the 3D joint model to the 2D images. An automatic 2D-3D image matching method has been validated as a useful and efficient method for t...

Explicit finite element modeling of kinematics and contact mechanics of artificial hip and knee joints

An explicit finite element method was applied to simultaneously predict both kinematics and contact mechanics of artificial hip and knee joints under normal walking condition. Mesh sensitivity and numbers of time interval were examined on the model prediction for an artificial hip joint under the condition of three-dimensional forces and rotations. Furthermore, the explicit method was used to p...
